Open Gate is a registered charity providing mentoring and befriending support to women offenders leaving HM Prison & YOI Low Newton, Durham, and who are returning to the North East of England. The project aims to aid resettlement and help reduce the risks of re-offending, so building safer communities for all.
HMP & YOI Low Newton
Low Newton is a closed female prison for women aged 18 and over, located approximately three miles from the city of Durham. It has an operational capacity of 396. Low Newton serves the courts in the catchment area from the Scottish Borders across to North Cumbria and as far south as North Yorkshire.
